3 April 2013   (Parlimen dibubarkan hari ini !)

11.34 am    Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the dissolution of the 12th parliament at 11.34 am today.  That makes way for the long-anticipated 13th General Election.  The earliest possible date for general election is 20 April 2013.   According to Article 55 (4) of the Federal Constitution, a general election must be held within sixty days of the dissolution of parliament.

13.3 million people are eligible to go to the polls in this general election, based on the latest electoral statistics.

A total of 222 parliamentary seats will be contested in the 13th GE, of which 31 are in Sarawak and 25 in Sabah, while there were 505 state seats up for contest (Sarawak already had their’s during 2011).  Barisan Nasional won 137 seats in the 12th GE, while Pakatan Rakyat and allies won 76 seats, the other nine seats were held by independents.
