Make Students 'Focus of Smart Schools' (I) What are smart schools? Those schools are known as smart schools but, apart from computers, it seems that there is little thing that is smart about them. Which is why the Deputy Prime Minister wants an overhaul of the management of these schools. Calling for a massive change in the "processes and procedures" entrenched in the school system the Deputy Prime Minister said students should become the focus of the system again. "We could simply purchase ICT equipment and build laboratories in schools and leaving it at that, having paid lip service to being ICT compliant. Our readiness must be 'open-ended', so to speak, to enable quick adoption of new improvements and modifications in technology to remain up to date," he said. He further emphasized about the current examination-based national curriculum that has been revamped. Students must be taught to master English Language because it is the primary language used in diplomacy, business or education. Children must attain a respectable level of fluency in English to make sure they are no less qualified when competing globally. Adapted from EFoMS SAL Module
